(SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim go for the four-game sweep when they wrap up Monday's road series against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.
The Angels are also eyeing up their first four-game winning streak of the season. They claimed a 9-3 victory on Sunday as they doubled up the Blue Jays in hits, 12-6, to move to two games above .500 for the first time this season.
Catcher Hank Conger headlined the offense with a career-high five RBI, highlighted by a three-run home run in the sixth inning. He became the first Angels catcher to knock in five runs in a game since Bobby Wilson on Aug. 14, 2010.
"I felt good, my swing has been up and down a little bit," Conger said. "For me, it's just a matter of slowing everything down. Obviously it was a good day."
Starter Jered Weaver, who began the year with a 5.79 ERA after three starts, went on to record his fifth quality start by tossing 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball.
Toronto has certainly not resembled the team that entered the series having won five straight with a 38-13 run differential in that span. The Blue Jays committed two errors in the field during Sunday's contest, and they have been held to three runs in all three games of the series. Starter Drew Hutchinson was chased after 4 1/3 innings, three runs, and a season-high four walks.
"You know what? In all honesty, we looked tired (Sunday)," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "But they've been taking it to us."
For Monday's series finale, Gibbons will hand the ball to veteran Mark Buehrle, who is 6-1 with an American League-best 1.91 ERA. Buehrle has posted quality starts in five of his seven outings. He twirled seven shutout innings against the Phillies last week as he allowed only three hits and struck out six.
"I don't want to ask too many questions, I don't want to try to figure out what's going on," Buehrle said. "I'm just going to roll with it and keep it as long as I can."
C.J. Wilson has also had five quality starts in seven tries this season, and he has lasted eight innings in each of his last two. Most recently, he limited the New York Yankees to three runs on seven hits for a no-decision. Now, he'll try to deal Toronto its first series sweep of the season.
The Angels have won a franchise-record seven consecutive games in Toronto, and overall they have won 10 of the last 11 head-to-head meetings with the Blue Jays.
