Anaheim, CA – The Angels have agreed to terms with former year contract to become assistant general manager of scouting and player development.
The deal was announced Friday. Servais had been the senior director of player development for the Texas Rangers since the 2005 season.
"I would like to thank the Texas Rangers for the opportunity they gave me," Servais said in a statement. "They have some phenomenal baseball people from which I have learned a tremendous amount. I'm thrilled to join yet another top organization in the Angels, owner Arte Moreno, president John Carpino and general manager Jerry Dipoto."
Servais, 44, spent 11 seasons in the major leagues as a catcher for the Houston Astros (1991-95, 2001), Chicago Cubs (1995-98) and San Francisco Giants (1999-2000).
After retiring, he became a roving catching instructor for the Cubs before taking a job as a scout for the Colorado Rockies, where Dipoto was director of player personnel.
"Scott has a great presence and his impact will be felt immediately," Dipoto said. "He will create a positive, productive and successful environment within our player development program. One simply needs to look at what Texas has accomplished during the last six years to understand the value Scott now brings to the Angels."
