Angels' Hamilton to have shoulder surgery

Anaheim, CA ( - Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton will undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair the AC joint in his right shoulder, the team announced Tuesday.

Hamilton, 33, may resume baseball activities as early as three weeks following the procedure but is likely sidelined up to two months, leaving him doubtful for Opening Day.

The 2010 AL MVP has not lived up to the lofty expectations put on his shoulders after inking a five-year, $125 million contract with the Angels. He hit .250 with 21 home runs and 79 RBI his first year in Anaheim and played only 89 games last season due to a litany of injuries.

His right shoulder was one of the issues that limited him to 10 home runs, 44 RBI and a .263 batting average last year.
