Mexico City, Mexico (SportsNetwork.com) - Rubens Sambueza netted a first- half brace on Saturday as America rolled past Puebla by a 3-1 count to go six points clear at the top of Liga MX.
The home side struck first in the 22nd minute of play when Sambueza fired home his first of the match and then doubled its lead seven minutes later when he completed his brace.
Puebla pulled one back on the stroke of halftime when Carlos Sanchez found the back of the net, but six minutes into the second half, America put the result to bed when Narciso Mina converted a penalty kick.
The result sees America up to 35 points from 14 matches, six clear of second- place Santos, while Puebla remains in 11th place on 18 points.
Elsewhere in Mexico on Saturday, Eduardo Aguirre book ended the first half with goals for Santos in a 3-1 victory over Atlante, while Pablo Velazquez's second goal of the contest rescued a point four minutes from time for Toluca in a 2-2 draw with Leon.
Felix Razo and Humberto Suazo traded goals as Monterrey and Jaguares battled to a 1-1 stalemate, while Atlas knocked off Queretaro by a 3-1 score. Finally on Saturday, Pachuca and Cruz Azul finished scoreless.
In Sunday's lone fixture, UNAM and Veracruz played to a scoreless draw, while Friday's action saw William Aguilar score in the final minute of normal time to save a point for Guadalajara in a 1-1 draw against Morelia, while Tigres and Tijuana battled to a scoreless stalemate.
