New York, NY – Commissioner Roger Goodell has issued a memo to every NFL team in wake of the punishments handed down to the New Orleans Saints for their involvement in a bounty program.
Every team in the league must certify that no such program exists.
Goodell has directed the principal owner of every NFL team to meet with their respective head coaches and confirm that their club does not operate a similar pay-for-performance or bounty program. Owners must also instruct their coaches that no such program is permissible and tell them to immediately terminate such a program if it exists.
Each club must confirm their observance of the directive in writing to the commissioner by March 30.
"Bounty programs have no place in our game," Goodell said in a statement. "They are incompatible with our efforts to promote sportsmanship, fair play, and player safety."
