Valencia, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Struggling La Liga side Levante named Lucas Alcaraz as the club's new manager on Wednesday, two days after it parted ways with former boss Jose Luis Mendilibar.
Alcaraz spent last season at Granada, where he led the club to a 15th-place finish, while he also has enjoyed stops in Spain with Almeria, Recreativo and Racing.
The 48-year-old Alcaraz inherits a club that sits second from the bottom in La Liga through eight games, with Levante having won just once in those eight fixtures under Mendilibar, whose fate was sealed following a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Real Madrid over the weekend.
Levante will be under the control of Alcaraz for the first time on Friday at Celta Vigo as the team looks for its first win in four games.
