Amsterdam, Netherlands – Ajax signed Finnish international defender Niklas Moisander from AZ Alkmaar on Tuesday on a three-year deal.
Moisander, 26, spent three years in the Ajax reserves earlier in his career. He left Ajax for Zwolle and later joined AZ Alkmaar, where he made more than 100 appearances and became club captain in 2011-12.
He returns to Ajax on a fee reported to be around $4 million, and will replace departed Jan Vertonghen in defense. Vertonghen recently joined Tottenham in the English Premier League.
Moisander played for Finland at a number of youth levels, and has appeared in 27 matches on the senior level.
