Aguero to make September return

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is expected to return to action in less than a month after he sustained a knee injury in Sunday's 3-2 season-opening win over Southampton.

Aguero went down in the opening 15 minutes of the game and had to be taken from the field on a stretcher, with City fearing the worst.

"I don't think Sergio will be out for long and we are hoping he will be back after the international break which is obviously fantastic news for him and for us," City manager Roberto Mancini told the club's website.

"We were very worried a couple of days ago because we feared he could be out for six months or maybe even more which would have been very bad news."

The 24-year-old had a scan on the injured knee and it revealed no major damage, meaning that the Sept. 15 match against Stoke City is now the target for his return.

Aguero turned in an impressive debut season for City after joining from Atletico Madrid as he netted 23 goals in 34 Premier League games.
