Manchester, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Sergio Aguero scored all four of Manchester City's goals as the defending champions handed Tottenham a 4-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
The match featured four penalty kicks, with two of them being saved, while Spurs finished the match with 10 men after defender Federico Fazio was sent off.
Aguero got City off the mark after 13 minutes when he got into the penalty area on the left and appeared to have few options before curling a well-placed shot inside the far post.
But the lead lasted less than two minutes as Christian Eriksen took advantage of a City turnover to hammer a shot off the leg of goalkeeper Joe Hart that redirected off the underside of the crossbar and into the net.
The fast-paced first half continued in the 20th minute when City's Frank Lampard went down inside the box under a challenge from Tottenham's Erik Lamela, allowing Aguero to step to the spot and send goalkeeper Hugo Lloris the wrong way.
Lloris, however, got the best of Aguero 12 minutes later when the Argentina international was presented with another spot kick after David Silva was fouled by Younes Kaboul in the area. This time Aguero tried to go down the middle, but Lloris kept a leg out to save the shot, while Aguero fired the rebound over the net.
It was a big break for Tottenham, but the visitors were soon cursing their own luck from the spot when Roberto Soldado was handed a chance to level the match after he was brought down by City's Martin Demichelis. The Spanish forward drove his shot toward the bottom corner of the net, but Hart was able to reach it at full stretch to palm it away.
The match then turned in City's favor just five minutes later when Fazio was sent off for pulling back Aguero in front of goal, reducing Spurs to 10 men and allowing Aguero to complete his hat trick.
Seven minutes later Aguero capped the scoring with his fourth tally of the afternoon after he tracked down a long ball from Fernandinho and curled a fine shot inside the post.
Chelsea overcame a tough test at Crystal Palace as the Blues maintained their five-point lead at the top of the league with a 2-1 win on Saturday.
Oscar scored on a free kick six minutes into the match, but Chelsea was reduced to 10 men in the 40th minute when Cesar Azpilicueta was sent off.
However, Palace defender Damien Delaney collected a second yellow card just three minutes later, canceling out the hosts numerical advantage.
Cesc Fabregas doubled the lead in the 51st for Chelsea, while Palace pulled a goal back late with Fraizer Campbell scoring just before stoppage time.
Arsenal was held to a fifth draw in eight games as the Gunners needed a stoppage-time equalizer from Danny Welbeck to salvage a 2-2 draw at home with Hull City.
