Chicago Cubs fans dreaming of postseason baseball at Wrigley Field come October are on the edge of their seats waiting to see if the front office will pull the trigger and acquire an ace.
After witnessing Philadelphia Phillies lefty Cole Hamels on Saturday toss the first no-hitter against th Cubs in a half-century, they'd seen enough. They want Hamels. Now.
Chicago is also reported to have contacted Detroit about acquiring David Price, who becomes a free agent at the end of the season. The Cubs possess the prospects to likely pry either pitcher. Price will come at a hefty price to sign in the offseason. Hamels, 31, already does come with a significant financial commitment. He's under contract through 2018 at an average of more than $22 million a year.
