The Hornets haven't waited even a full day after their season-ending loss at Dallas to announce their formal name-change to the Pelicans.

After a 27-win 2012-13 campaign, the organization was understandably eager to adopt a new identity.

How long it takes for the club to become a winner remains to be seen, but there were several developments this season that bode well for the future, starting with the play of Anthony Davis.

The top overall draft choice in 2012 averaged 13.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and nearly two blocks. Ryan Anderson, Robin Lopez and Greivis Vasquez made strides, and Eric Gordon finished the season healthy.

Now the offseason brings a pick in the NBA's draft lottery and a free-agency period in which the club will have a lot of spending flexibility.
