AC Milan bolstered its injury-depleted defense on Wednesday by securing the services of Matias Silvestre on a season-long loan from rivals Inter Milan.

Milan is short on defensive options with Daniele Bonera, Philippe Mexes and Mattia De Sciglio each currently out through injury, necessitating the need for Silvestre's arrival.

The 28-year-old appeared in nine Serie A matches for Inter last term after he started 29 times the previous season for Palermo.

The Rossoneri opens its Serie A campaign on Aug. 25 at Hellas Verona.
