White House Day Ahead...Wednesday

The President begins his Wednesday by receiving the Presidential Daily Briefing in the Oval Office. This meeting is closed. Later, the President will meet with General Odierno in the Oval Office. This meeting is also closed.

The President travels to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania later in the morning where he will deliver a speech at Carnegie Mellon University and will discuss the state of our economy, the future we need to seize, and the path we choose to get there. He will talk about the progress we’ve made in building the New Foundation he discussed at Georgetown last year, as well as the work we have left to do. The President will return to Washington, DC in the afternoon and in the evening, Mr. Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will host a concert in the East Room honoring Paul McCartney, who will be awarded the 3rd Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from the Library of Congress. President Obama will present the award.  The program will be broadcast on PBS July 28, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Vice President Biden will be in New York City where at 1:00 p.m. ET, the Vice President will attend an event for Representative Nita Lowey in Manhattan.

Afterwards, Vice President Biden will visit the Brooklyn Bridge to discuss how Recovery Act investments are creating jobs and improving infrastructure in New York and across the country. At 2:45 p.m. ET, the Vice President will deliver remarks at this event. New York City has received funding to repair and upgrade key components of the Brooklyn Bridge to improve its efficiency and extend its useful life. Part of this funding was awarded through a $30 million Recovery Act grant from the Department of Transportation. This investment is creating jobs, generating local economic activity, and allowing New York City to address other critical infrastructure needs. The Vice President will be joined by Deputy Secretary of Transportation John Porcari, Representative Jerrold Nadler, and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

At 7:15 PM, the Vice President and Dr. Jill Biden will attend Sesame Workshop’s 8th Annual Benefit Gala, where they will be honored for their work on behalf of military families.

The Vice President and Dr. Biden will return to Washington, DC, in the evening.
