During their press conference in the East Room, President Obama told Prime Minister Singh the United States is "fully committed" to a civil nuclear agreement. Steps toward this pact began during the Bush administration but there are many details that need to be completed before nuclear technology can be transfered to India.

In his opening remarks, President Obama said, "our strategic partnership should facilitate transfer of high technologies to India. The lifting of U.S. export controls on high- technology exports to India will open vast opportunities for joint research and development efforts."

Prime Minister Singh stressed that a U.S.-India nuclear deal will open new prospects for American businesses in India.
