The House Intelligence Committee's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election "went off the rails" when the GOP chairman briefed President Trump on incidental monitoring of his campaign, the panel's top Democrat said.

Rep. Adam Schiff, R-Calif., said that Republican Chairman Devin Nunes has to decide which side he stands on.

"I think the chairman has to make a decision whether he will act as a surrogate of the White House or to lead a credible investigation," Schiff said.

Schiff was also angry that Nunes canceled an open hearing this week in order to get more testimony behind closed doors.
