In a newly released video, the father of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz – a Tea Party Republican from Texas whose dislike of President Obama is known far and wide – is heard telling a crowd of conservatives that he would “like to send him [Obama] back to Kenya, back to Indonesia.”

Rafael Cruz actually delivered the speech last year at a meeting of the North Texas Tea Party, but the video emerged Thursday in a profile by Mother Jones magazine of the senator’s father, Rafael Cruz.

The magazine story, which said: “Want to understand where the Tea Party champion’s hardcore views come from? Meet his father, Rafael,” quoted the elder Cruz as telling the audience that the administration is “pushing very hard for the United Nations to have taxing authority.”

Rafael Cruz continued in the video: “Part of this administration’s agenda is to make us a third world country and to make us sucked in to the United Nations,” he said. “It’s all about the global distribution of wealth.”

Obama was born in Hawaii; his father was from Kenya and his mother was from Kansas.

Rafael Cruz, who is from Cuba and whose moved to Canada, where Ted Cruz was born, often has likened Obama to Fidel Castro, saying that both had attracted support through promises of “hope and change.” He warns that Obama is gradually pushing socialism in the United States, and notes that he knows the signs because he lived through them under communism in Cuba.

Sen. Cruz's spokesman, Sean Rushton, said in a statement published by Politico that the Kenya quotes were taken out of context.

“These selective quotes, taken out of context, mischaracterize the substance of Pastor Cruz’s message. Like many Americans, he feels America is on the wrong track,” Rushton is quoted as saying. “Pastor Cruz does not speak for the senator.”

But according to the Dallas Morning News, the elder Cruz is routinely sent out by the senator to speak on his behalf.

The Mother Jones article said that recently the elder Cruz “sparked headlines when he told a gathering of Republicans in Colorado that Obama has vowed to ‘side with the Muslims,’ that Obamacare mandates ‘suicide counseling’ for the elderly, and that gay marriage is a plot to make ‘government your god.’”
