The couple accused of crashing a White House party last month once tried to settle a $2,000 debt with a landscaper by handing over a fake watch valued at about $100, MyFoxDC reports.
According to the report, court documents show Michaele and Tareq Salahi handed over what they claimed to be an authentic Patek Philippe watch as a way to pay off a lawn mowing debt. An authentic watch of that kind can be worth between $17,000 and $250,000.
But once appraised, the broken watch was found to be an imposter worth about $100, according to MyFoxDC.
The landscaper's attorney said the company was just paid with a $2,000 bank check Monday -- and the judge in the case released the watch.
