House Budget Committee chair goes 'On the Record'

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren Tuesday night the budget deal he agreed on with Senate Budget Committee Chairman Patty Murray “moves the ball in the right direction” toward what both parties sought in the negotiations.

Ryan, R-Wis., said on “On the Record” the compromise both moves toward what he wanted, which was a step toward fiscal conservatism and deficit reduction, and what Murray, D-Wash., wanted, which was relief from the sequester.

“And so what we did is we found where is common ground,” he said. “We looked at our budget that we passed in the House, her budget that she passed for the first time in 3 years in the Senate, the president’s budget, we looked at those areas of common ground, common understanding, we negotiated that, and that’s what this result is.”

Ryan said that despite this, he expects some of his Republican colleagues to vote against the deal, including Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who spoke out against the proposal after it was announced.

“He has his reasons,” Ryan said. “In the minority you don’t have to pass things, that’s a luxury – or not – that people have in the Senate. Marco is a very good friend of mine, I’m a big fan of his. I wish he’d support it but if he doesn’t that’s fine.”
