President Obama Plans on Watching Baseball over GOP Debate

President Obama plans on watching the baseball playoffs Tuesday night and skipping the GOP presidential debate.

The Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers face off in game three of the AL championship series, with the Rangers leading the series 2-0.

Also battling it out are the Republican contenders in a Bloomberg/Washington Post debate at Dartmouth college in the all-important first in the nation primary state of New Hampshire.

Principal Deputy White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said he spoke to the president about it, and while he's watching baseball, he'll probably read about the debate later.

That's been a common occurrence as the 2012 political events have been picking up. Back in late September, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Obama didn't watch earlier debates, but caught up on them later, noting if you pass a television with cable news on, it's hard to escape.

As for who the president will be supporting in the baseball game, Earnest said he didn't know, but White House economic adviser Gene Sperling is traveling with the president and is a big Detroit fan and will be cheering loudly.

Obama traveled to Pittsburgh Tuesday to tout his jobs bill and is in Florida in the evening for fundraising events.
