Texas Gov. and GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry is leaving the campaign trail in South Carolina Monday to head back to Texas as massive wildfires ravage the Lone Star State.Perry aides say the governor has been monitoring the fires from the road but will go back to Austin to follow them there. Thousands of acres of land are on fire in South, Central and East Texas.

Perry is attending one South Carolina campaign event Monday morning but will skip an afternoon forum hosted by Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., in Columbia.At the morning event, Perry talked about the fires saying he was leaving directly after the event. Perry added that there is zero containment of the fires and winds were picking up. He asked the audience to pray for the those affected and for rain.

Perry also cancelled events planned for Tuesday in California.
