President Obama says the hybrid transmission systems being built at an Indianapolis factory can help the country reduce its dependence on imported oil.

Obama spoke Friday before hundreds of people on the factory floor of an Allison Transmission plant, saying the company's work toward building more fuel-efficient vehicles is an example of how the American economy is regaining its footing.

The stage inside the factory was flanked by a long black bus and a commercial truck outfitted with Allison-made hybrid transmission systems, with racks filled with those transmissions as a backdrop. Allison expects to add about 200 jobs in the next couple years as it manufactures more hybrid-propulsion systems.
