North Dakota GOP Primary Sets Stage for Competitive House Race in the Fall

Race to Watch: 

At-Large Congressional Republican Primary -- Rick Berg vs. J.D. Donaghe

State Rep. Rick Berg is the presumptive favorite in Tuesday's election having already won the state party's endorsement in March and vastly outraised J.D. Donaghe. Should he win, the primary sets up a heated race between Berg and incumbent Democratic Rep. Earl Pomeroy in the fall.

Polls show Berg already leading the incumbent in a general election contest.

In the Senate, incumbent Byron Dorgan announced his retirement earlier in the year, leaving an open seat. However, the primary will not be competitive as only one candidate from each party has filed to run -- state Sen. Tracy Arlen Potter on the Democratic side and Gov. John Hoeven on the Republican side.
