Members of the Electoral College are gathering in each state Monday to cast their votes for president and vice president of the United States.

After November's election determined the number of electoral votes for each candidate, electors will officially elect Joe Biden to be the next president.

Following Monday's vote, certificates signed by the electors will be sent to officials including their state's secretary of state, Vice President Mike Pence., the U.S. archivist, and a federal judge in each district where electors meet. Those certificates must be received by December 23.

On January 6, the votes will be counted at a joint session of Congress, with Vice President Pence presidng.
