Secretary of State John Kerry this week will receive the "Diplomat of the Year" award from Foreign Policy magazine, according to the State Department.

Kerry will receive the award Tuesday night at the Park Hyatt hotel in Washington, D.C., and will deliver on-the-record remarks to the press.

Kerry has been praised largely by Democrats for his negotiation and conclusion of the Iran nuclear agreement, under which Iran agreed to scale back its nuclear program. But most Republicans have pilloried the deal as one that doesn't force enough change in Iran, and also gives the country access to conventional weapons that could be used to threaten neighboring countries.

The State Department under Kerry has also been criticized recently for accusing Israel of terrorist-like actions as it counters violence from Palestinians.
