Ohio Gov. John Kasich told CNN he would not attack other GOP presidential candidates by name, but instead criticize their ideas. Kasich then attacked several of Donald Trump's ideas without explicitly associating them with Trump.
"I will criticize programs and plans that I think are goofy, which I did in the last debate. Things like shipping ten or 11 million people out of this country and some fantasy that we're going to get the Mexican government to pay for the wall," Kasich said. "I don't want to attack people but I am going to attack programs I think hurt the Republican Party, hurt the conservative movement, and don't put us in a position of where we can actually win an election and turn America around."
The governor explained his reasoning for doing so coincided with his belief that poor people need to know the GOP has compassion for them.
"This Republican Party has to make sure that people know that we care about them," Kasich said. "I care about poor people. I care about those who live in the shadows, about those who are mentally ill or drug-addicted."
