Kick the can past Obama's term

The at-large editor of National Review Online said, 'I think Barack Obama doesn't want to be put in a position of actually having to do anything'

Jonah Goldberg said Friday on "Special Report with Bret Baier" that the conflict brewing between President Obama and some of his fellow Democrats over new sanctions on Iran is  because "this White House is very worried they won't be able to kick the can past Obama's term."

Goldberg, the at-large editor of National Review Online, said he believes Obama does not want to be put in a position of "actually having to do anything" involving Iran and its nuclear program.

"As long as they can keep dragging out the nuclear negotiation process, that prevents him from actually having to make a real decision," Goldberg said.

Goldberg added the reason the White House does not like a measure by Democratic N.J. Sen.  Robert Menendez of New Jersey to move forward with new sanctions on Tehran is that the bill puts a bookend on the negotiations.

"It actually says at some point, negotiations have to stop and this White House loves to talk about how at one point, you know, the time for diplomacy will come to end, but that's not now," Goldberg said. "But they always extend the time for diplomacy."
