House Votes to Extend Unemployment Benefits

The House of Representatives Thursday night followed the Senate's lead and okayed a two-month extension of unemployment assistance.

The House would have been able to approve the controversial extension weeks ago but the legislation was bottled up in the Senate by Republicans who demanded the assistance be paid for.

The vote was 289 to 112.

The legislation now goes to President Obama for his signature.
