Members of the House are scheduled to work 22 fewer days in 2016 than they did in 2015, in large part because of the election that will send them home for the month of October to campaign.
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., released the 2016 schedule Tuesday morning. The schedule reveals that members will leave Washington, D.C., in mid-July, instead of working the entire month as they might normally do.
Members will also not be in Washington for all of October to prepare for the Nov. 1 election.
Members were scheduled to work 133 days in 2015, but next year are scheduled to be in Washington for 111 days. Those schedules can change, for example, when a weekend day is need to pass a last-minute "must-pass" bill.
