Former president George W. Bush will throw the first pitch at the Texas Ranger's home opener against the Cleveland Indians next week, the team's Web site announced Monday.

Bush "has accepted the Rangers' invitation to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the club's home opener on Monday at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington [Texas]," according to a press release posted Monday.

The former president agreed to the honor after Rangers owner Tom Hicks and club president Nolan Ryan invited him to throw out the ceremonial pitch earlier this spring, the team said.

Bush will be making his first appearance at the Ballpark in Arlington, Texas, since he was governor of the state in 2000.
