Florida Governor Charlie Crist (R) says he plans to speak to President Obama Thursday about the direction the country should be heading when it comes to helping families, small businesses, health care and unemployment. In his first post State of the Union appearance, the President will be in the Sunshine state mid-afternoon for a town hall meeting at the University of Tampa.  Governor Crist reacted to last night's speech by saying in a paper statement "While the President has always been able to give a good speech, what our country needs right now are the right ideas put in to action."

The only opportunity the two men will have to talk is when President Obama's plane lands at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa.  Governor Crist's aides say he has a previously scheduled event at the University of South Floriday, where he will roll out his higher education budget plan for the next fiscal year.

The Governor is currently running against Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination. A recent Quinnipiac poll shows Rubio leading Crist 47 - 44 percent.  A major reversal from October when Crist held the lead 50 -35 percent.
