Former Washington Mayor Marion Barry has been released from the hospital after successfully undergoing a kidney transplant.
The 72-year-old D.C. Council member was released Friday from Howard University Hospital one week after receiving a kidney from longtime friend 47-year-old Kim Dickens.
An upbeat Barry says he feels better than he did before the surgery.
A spokeswoman for Barry has said his kidney problems are the result of diabetes and hypertension.
The kidney transplant came as prosecutors were seeking to have Barry jailed for failing to file his 2007 federal and local tax returns. A hearing is set for April 2.
