Congressional Calendar December 9, 2010

After passage in the House of Representatives, the Senate will hold a vote to start debate on a controversial immigration bill. Senators will vote on whether to take up the DREAM Act, which provides a path to citizenship for children brought into the country illegally by their parents. The measure is expected to fall short of the 60-vote threshold needed to proceed further.

Reid may then move to consider legislation to provide health care and financial compensation for victims of the 9/11 attacks. This proposal also appears to lack the necessary votes to move ahead.

Democrats in both chambers will continue to debate the merits of President Obama's tax cut compromise with Congressional Republicans. On Wednesday, Reid announced plans to schedule a Senate vote on the plan "in the next day or two."
