Clinton praised O'Malley, once said he should win 'by acclamation'

Although they are now foes in the Democratic presidential contest, Hillary Clinton was once a Martin O'Malley fan.

The then-Secretary of State Clinton praised O'Malley in an email in 2010 as he fought for re-election in a rematch against former Maryland Gov. Robert Ehrlich. The email was part of the latest batch of emails publicly released from Clinton's tenure at the State Department.

"How's our friend, Martin, doing?" Clinton asked Senator Barbara Mikulski, D-Md. "I know he has a rematch when he should be reelected by acclamation for steering the ship of state so well. Pls give him my best wishes"

O'Malley was re-elected to a second term as governor of Maryland. He is now a candidate for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination. On the campaign trail he now routinely takes jabs at front-runner Clinton. He has accused the Democratic National Committee of unfairly favoring Clinton in the debates and in other ways. He has also told reporters he thought Clinton mishandled her private email server.
