WASHINGTON -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's official state visit to the U.S. will take place Jan. 19.

The White House says Hu's visit will "highlight the importance of expanding cooperation between the United States and China."

It reciprocates President Obama's state visit to China in November 2009.

As part of the ceremonies, Obama and his wife will host Hu for an official state dinner.

The White House says the event also will underline the "friendship between the peoples" of the two countries.
