A car in which police found a gun plunged into the Capitol Hill reflecting pool on Tuesday morning, according to news reports.

The vehicle went into the shallow pool during a police chase that began at about 3 a.m.

Officers attempted to pull over the car during a routine traffic stop near Lower Senate Park, which is across Constitution Avenue from the U.S.Capitol building. The driver led police on a short chase before losing control of the car.

Two men ran from car but were captured by police, according to WTOP radio and wire service reports.

The car has been removed from the pool, near the intersection of Louisiana Avenue and D Street.

The park where the incident occurred is also near the Russell Senate Office Building.
