Border Patrol foils old cocaine-in-the-fire extinguisher trick

U.S. agents at the San Clemente, Calif., southern border checkpoint Friday morning seized several pounds of cocaine hidden inside a shiny red fire extinguisher.

This morning agents pulled over a 2008 Dodge Nitro driven by a 20-year-old female Mexican driver for further inspection, according to a report on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website.

A drug-sniffing dog "alerted" to the SUV's cargo area where agents discovered an "unusually heavy" red fire extinguisher. Inside, they allegedly found almost seven pounds of powder cocaine valued at an estimated $81,960.

The suspect was arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Agency along with the white powder. The Border Patrol kept the vehicle.
