The top Republican in the House wants Speaker Nancy Pelosi to know he hasn't forgotten about her "outrageous" allegation last month that the CIA lied to Congress.
As Pelosi arrived back on Capitol Hill fresh from a trip to China, GOP Leader John Boehner told reporters that he and fellow Republicans intend to keep the pressure on Pelosi to explain herself.
"My colleagues and I are prepared to continue to press this issue until it is resolved," he said.
Boehner, R-Ohio, repeated the GOP refrain that the California Democrat needs either to back up her explosive accusation with evidence or apologize.
"It's as simple as that," Boehner said. "It's not about anything other than the fact that the speaker made this outrageous statement."
Pelosi said last month that the CIA misled Congress about its use of enhanced interrogation techniques on terror detainees.
Despite a subsequent rebuttal from CIA Director Leon Panetta, Pelosi said May 22 that she stands by her statement. She said at the time she was done talking about the matter.
But Boehner said that posture is unacceptable.
"Either offer proof that our intelligence professionals lied to her or she should retract that statement and offer an apology. And to date she's done neither. She's done nothing to address the damage that she's left by her unsupported accusations," he said.
Pelosi was in China to discuss environmental issues.
