Perhaps caught up in Super Bowl fever, Sen. Evan Bayh says he wants outgoing Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy to be President-elect Barack Obama's point man for promoting responsible fatherhood.

It's unclear exactly what he wants Dungy to do in that role. But as Washington has a czar for most everything, a fatherhood czar might not be far off.

"Tony Dungy won a Super Bowl and took our Colts to the playoffs for seven straight years, but the greatest measure of this man is what he has done off the field," Bayh, D-Ind., said in a written statement. "He is a hero to all of us who care about fostering responsible fatherhood. He is a hero to advocates and foster families trying to give children loving homes through adoption. He is a hero to scores of young Hoosiers in Indianapolis for whom he has played a personal role in their lives."

He said he's already broached the request with Obama, and that the incoming president likes the idea.

"He enthusiastically agreed, saying, 'I love that guy.' So do all Hoosiers," Bayh said.

Obama's transition team could not be reached for comment.

Bayh cited Dungy's charity work on behalf of children's hospitals and youth scholarships in recommending him for a role in Obama's administration.
