Bachmann Interested in Becoming House GOP Conference Chair

FOX has learned that there is a "draft Michele Bachmann" effort afoot among House conservatives (and prospective members) to move the Minnesota Republican into the leadership.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) founded the tea party caucus last year. It's thought that House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-IN) will step down (he's the number three in GOP leadership on the minority side...the slot would be the number four position in a GOP majority).

Some establishment Republicans are suspect of Bachmann and uncomfortable with some of her ideas. And moving her into leadership could make some GOPers wince.

But they have to first determine what's up with Pence. But Bachmann has raised a lot of money for conservatives and generated a lot of support. A more conservative House may demand that they have someone like Bachmann in leadership.

Fox has also learned that Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) is interested in returning as Vice Chair. She is currently expecting he second child in December.

As I have reported in the past few days, under a GOP majority, Boehner would be Speaker, Cantor would be Majority Leader and Chief Deputy Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) would graduate to Majority Whip.
