Republican Raúl Labrador has won Idaho’s first congressional district against Democrat Walt Minnick.

Labrador won against the incumbent in his first run for Congress, with a 51 percent of the vote against Minnick’s 41 percent.

He was born in Caroline, Puerto Rico and is an attorney who specializes in immigration law, and supports both bolstering border security and cracking down on illegal immigration.

Labrador touts his record in the Idaho Legislature, where he stood up against his party's leadership, particularly as a vocal opponent of the Republican governor's proposal to raise the state gas tax to fund highway repairs.

Labrador is anti-abortion and also has denounced the May 2010 passage in the U.S. House of Representatives defense bill that paves the way for gays to serve openly in the military.

He is a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment and has an "A" rating from the National Rifle Association.
