Richard Staropoli has an extensive background within the U.S. intelligence and law enforcement sector. He spent approximately 25 years as a special agent with the U.S. Secret Service holding supervisory positions within the New York field office, Presidential Protective Division, Counter Assault Teams and Secret Service HQ. Notably, Staropoli has conducted approximately 500 polygraph exams, which is a significant component of the applicant hiring process. Staropoli has also managed the Protective Intelligence Division within the New York field office post 9/11. In 2016, Staropoli was nominated by President Donald Trump to be the first presidentially appointed Chief Information Officer for the Department of Homeland Security.
