Harf currently serves as Executive Director at the University of Pennsylvania's Perry World House. Previously, she served as Secretary of State John Kerry's Senior Advisor for Strategic Communications and as the State Department’s Deputy and Acting Spokesperson. In 2012, Harf was in charge of national security and foreign policy issues for President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign. More recently, she served as Executive Director of the Serve America political organization, advising veteran candidates running for public office in the 2020 cycle. She began her career at the Central Intelligence Agency in 2006, serving first as an analyst on Middle East issues and later as its media spokesperson.
Harf received her master’s degree in foreign affairs from the University of Virginia and graduated with honors from Indiana University, earning a bachelor’s degree in political science with concentrations in Jewish studies and Russian and Eastern European studies. She is a native of Granville, Ohio.
