The attacks in Paris are horrific and an unprecedented form of evil intended to disrupt the lives of free people.

All Americans stand in solidarity with Paris and the French people. I ask every American to join me in praying for France, our first and oldest ally, and its citizens.

It is imperative that we address these new dangers to our homeland by acting to reassess and strengthen our border security and engage with leaders throughout the world to address the ever-spreading threat of terrorism.

This isn’t just an attack on Paris, this is an attack on the civilized world.

Sadly, this tragedy reinforces that the battle against terrorism and extremism will not be fought only in the Middle East. The United States and Western nations are dealing with escalating security challenges that cannot be resolved through diplomacy.

It is imperative that we address these new dangers to our homeland by acting to reassess and strengthen our border security and engage with leaders throughout the world to address the ever-spreading threat of terrorism.

I previously have introduced legislation to ensure stricter control on cooperative travel agreements and procedures – like the Visa Waiver Program – and provide additional tools to address Americans who have joined ISIS and other terror groups.

These are common-sense steps to show the world that threats to our principal freedoms are entirely unacceptable and will be resisted.
