Protesters remain quiet as jury deliberates

The scene outside the Glynn County courthouse remained quiet Tuesday afternoon as a 12-person jury began deliberations, according to Fox News' Claudia Kelly-Bazan.

Some people outside the building played music or chatted among themselves. There was a larger protester prescence outside the courthouse on Monday as the prosecution and defense made their closing arguments.

Black armed militia groups that were present Monday did not return as of Tuesday afternoon.

Defense accused of 'racism and bigotry' for 'toenails' comment in closing argum

A lawyer for one of the three White men accused of the fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery came under fire Monday for highlighting the slain man's "dirty toenails" in her closing argument.

"Turning Ahmaud Arbery into a victim after the choices that he made does not reflect the reality of what brought Ahmaud Arbery to Satilla Shores in his khaki shorts with no socks to cover his long, dirty toenails," Lauren Hogue told the panel, referring to a description from the autopsy report.

The comment prompted Arbery's mother Wanda Cooper-Jones to exclaim "Wow!" and exit the Glynn County courtroom in Georgia.

Jury begins deliberations

A 12-person jury began deliberations in the Ahmaud Arbery case Tuesday.

The Georgia jury consists of one Black juror and 11 White jurors, despite earlier protests from prosecutors.
