The Wild West lives on in southern Spain
Instead of heading to the Black Hills of the Dakotas or the scrub lands of west Texas, tourists are flocking to a small area of southern Spain that is home to an expansive Western-style replica town that was initially built as a film set in the 1960s.
For fans of classic westerns like "The Magnificent Seven" and "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" who want to experience life in the Wild West first-hand, there might be no better place to go than Almeria, Spain.
Instead of heading to the Black Hills of the Dakotas or the arid scrub lands of west Texas, tourists are flocking to this small area of southern Spain that is home to an expansive Western-style replica town was initially built as a film set in the 1960s.
With classic blockbuster films such as "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" and "Lawrence of Arabia" filmed in and around Almeria – along with many movies in Sergio Leone's Spaghetti Western genre – the Old West set, dubbed Fort Bravo/Texas Hollywood, now hosts daily shows for visitors, including a Can-Can act in the saloon, an American-style cowboy fight and a bank robbery action sequence in the middle of the dusty main street.
There is even an option to stay overnight in one of the bungalows on-set, and the opportunity to go horseback riding, create your own vintage-style photo shoot and horse-cart shuttle service.
