Woman learns she's pregnant, gives birth hours later

When Kim Walsh went to the doctor complaining of abdominal pain and was told she was pregnant and going into labor, she was shocked—and not just because she didn't know she was pregnant.

The 38-year-old suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome, which causes an imbalance of testosterone that often results in infertility, obesity, irregular or no periods, and more. In spite of arriving at the hospital "without so much as a nappy," let alone plans for parenthood, Walsh and Anthony, her husband of 15 years, were overjoyed, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

"My husband was parked outside," recounts Walsh. "I told him: 'You're going to be a father ... today.'" Daughter Shelby was in fetal distress due to her umbilical cord being wrapped about her neck, and it took a large team to deliver the girl successfully, reports MSN 9 News. Shelby is now 2 months old.

When the Walshes visited the hospital to thank the staff a few days ago, Kim Walsh posted a photo of a doctor holding Shelby and described him as "the man who saved mine and my daughter's lives." "What an incredible gift for two of the most wonderful, genuine people you could ever wish to meet," their doctor said.

"Even to a gnarled old-timer like me, she is a cute baby." (Earlier this summer, another woman delivered her baby only to immediately undergo open heart surgery.)
