A Texas representative is proposing legislation that will require all new college students to be vaccinated for meningitis, MyFoxHouston.com reported.

Rep. Charlie Howard introduced the pending legislation after being in contact with the father of a Texas A&M student who died from the bacterial disease last week.

The 20-year-old student, Nicolis Williams, was not required to be vaccinated because he lived off campus. Current state laws only require that students who will be living in dorms must be vaccinated.

"I believe we'll be able to pass it," Howard said of his pending legislation.
