Teen's painful skin condition causes her to 'shed' every 6 weeks

A teenager who sheds her skin every six weeks because of an ultra-rare condition is set to get life-improving treatment in Europe (SWNS / Newslions)

A 16-year-old who sheds her skin every six weeks is set to receive life-changing therapy for her rare disease. Shalini Yadav, who was diagnosed with Erythroderma, has to constantly moisturize her body and bathe every hour to stop her skin from hardening, SWNS reported.

Yadav, who lives in the Chattarpur district of Madhya Pradseh in India, is set to fly to Spain on Saturday for treatment after a news campaign helped to expose her case.

Previously, Yadav's family could not afford to see a specialist, and her condition has left her unable to walk without assistance or straighten her limbs.

"I was very excited to learn that we'd be going to Spain," Yadav said, according to SWNS. "I have seen the place in an Indian TV show - now I will actually get to see it."

Yadav's two siblings, ages 15 and 8, do not have the condition. Her mother, Devkunwar, said watching her child in excruciating pain leaves her feeling helpless.

"This disease is not killing her but taking her life bit by bit," Devkunwar told SWNS. "We have no idea where to go and who to consult."

Yadav will receive the free treatment at Regional University Hospital and Virgen de la Victoria of Malaga thanks in part to India-based press agency Newslions and it's director, Sanjay Pandey, SWNS reported.

"I am very grateful for all that the hospital from Spain is offering," Yadav's father said, according to SWNS. "Without their help and Mr. Pandey's support, my daughter would never get a shot at leading a normal life."

While the report did not specify what kind of treatment she will receive, Pandey said doctors are hopeful that she will be able to walk unassisted and to straighten her limbs.
