A group of nurses at Medford Multicare Center on Long Island, N.Y. allegedly ignored for 24 minutes a warning light and buzzer that indicated the ventilator for quadriplegic Robert Knowles had become dislodged, a lawsuit charges.
The resulting oxygen deprivation left Knowles with severe brain damage and a seizure disorder, his family alleges in a lawsuit filed in Suffolk County Supreme Court in May 2009.

The state Attorney General's Office is investigating the March 21, 2009, incident.
