Eight-year-old Draysin, of Douglas County, Ga., has long golden-blonde locks that his mother blow-dries and brushes every day.
But the boy’s 14-inch-long mane isn’t a fashion statement— rather, it is a means to an end, MyFoxAtlanta.com reported.
Draysin had opted against getting a haircut for the past five years in an effort to grow his hair long enough to donate to Locks of Love. The organization helps provide hairpieces to children who have lost their hair due to a medical condition.
According to My Fox Atlanta, Draysin’s brothers inspired him to donate.
“My oldest actually saw a pamphlet about children with cancer and heard about Locks of Love, and so he started donating it,” Dayna Jones, Draysin's mother, told the news station. “When [Draysin] was born and found out about it, he said he wanted to do the same thing,”
On Wednesday, scissors finally touched Draysin’s hair, which had nearly fallen to his waist.
“I’m really proud of him,” his mother said.
